Curriculum Development Best Practices

The National Institute of Building Sciences (Institute), in partnership with the Association of Controls Professionals (ACP), engaged community colleges with mature green buildings programs in order to develop a demonstration program for how to develop curriculum using Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines (BBWG) course outlines and learning objectives that can lead to accredited certificates and Department of Energy recognition.


The aim of the project was for each of the selected schools to develop or re-align their curriculum in accordance with the BBWG course outlines and learning objectives, such that they would be prepared to receive approval from their respective school’s curriculum approval body.

Throughout the pilot phase of the ongoing project (since August 2018), the Institute and ACP engaged and guided the five selected community colleges in initiating the process of re-aligning their curriculum so that this pilot program could be showcased to a larger audience.
